Ingredients
Scale
For the Hand Pies:
1 package of pre-made pie crusts (or homemade pie dough)
1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon water
Optional:
Additional chocolate chips for topping
Instructions
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the Pie Dough:
Roll out your pie crusts on a lightly floured surface.
Cut into circles or rectangles using a cookie cutter or knife for uniform shapes.
3. Make the Chocolate Filling:
In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate chips with the heavy cream.
Stir until smooth and creamy. Allow the mixture to cool slightly to thicken.
4. Assemble the Hand Pies:
Spoon a small amount of the chocolate filling onto the center of half the pie crust shapes, leaving a border around the edges.
Place the remaining pie crust shapes on top of the chocolate-filled ones.
Gently press the edges together and seal with the tines of a fork for a decorative border.
5. Egg Wash and Bake:
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash.
Brush the tops of the hand pies with the egg wash.
Place the pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
6. Serve:
Let the hand pies cool slightly before serving.
Optionally, sprinkle chocolate chips on top while still warm for a melty finish.
Notes
For extra sweetness, drizzle melted chocolate or powdered sugar glaze over the baked pies.
Try different fillings like fruit preserves, peanut butter, or caramel for variety!
These hand pies can be made ahead and frozen before baking. Simply bake them from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cook time.
