Ingredients
Scale
-
For the Donuts:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm milk (110°F)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the Gummy Glaze:
- 1 cup gummy candies (assorted flavors)
- 2 tbsp water
- ½ cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ½-inch thickness. Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or a round cookie cutter with a smaller cutter for the center.
- Second rise: Place cut-out donuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Fry the donuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on a wire rack lined with paper towels.
- Prepare the gummy glaze: For the gummy glaze, melt the gummy candies with water in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar until a glaze forms.
- Glaze the donuts: Dip each donut into the warm gummy glaze and let it set before serving.
Notes
- Use your favorite gummy candies for the glaze—assorted flavors create a colorful and fun topping!
- For a smoother glaze, you can strain the melted gummy candy mixture before mixing with powdered sugar.
- Fry the donuts in batches to ensure they cook evenly and don’t overcrowd the pan.
- Donuts are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
