Description

These Gummy Glazed Donuts are a fun twist on a classic treat! With a light, fluffy donut base and a sweet gummy glaze, they’re a hit with kids and adults alike. The gummy glaze adds a chewy texture that pairs perfectly with the crispy fried donuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  1. For the Donuts:

    • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
    • ½ cup warm milk (110°F)
    • ¼ cup granulated sugar
    • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 egg
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    • Vegetable oil for frying

    For the Gummy Glaze:

    1. 1 cup gummy candies (assorted flavors)
    2. 2 tbsp water
    3. ½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough: Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ½-inch thickness. Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or a round cookie cutter with a smaller cutter for the center.
  • Second rise: Place cut-out donuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Fry the donuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on a wire rack lined with paper towels.
  • Prepare the gummy glaze: For the gummy glaze, melt the gummy candies with water in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar until a glaze forms.
  • Glaze the donuts: Dip each donut into the warm gummy glaze and let it set before serving.

Notes

  • Use your favorite gummy candies for the glaze—assorted flavors create a colorful and fun topping!
  • For a smoother glaze, you can strain the melted gummy candy mixture before mixing with powdered sugar.
  • Fry the donuts in batches to ensure they cook evenly and don’t overcrowd the pan.
  • Donuts are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
