For the Caramel Mixture:
- 1 can of sweetened condensed milk

- 4 cups of powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup of milk
- 1/2 cup of caramel sauce (remaining from earlier)
- 1 cup of chopped pecans
- 1 cup of sweetened shredded coconut
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the Cake: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat the mixture until well combined.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Make the Caramel Mixture: While the cake is baking, in a medium bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and 1/2 cup of caramel sauce. Whisk until smooth.
- Poke the Cake: Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Use the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes into the cake at 1-inch intervals.
- Pour the Caramel Mixture: Pour the caramel mixture over the cake, spreading it evenly to fill the holes.
- Prepare the Frosting: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, and remaining 1/2 cup of caramel sauce, mixing until smooth.
- Add Pecans and Coconut: Fold in the chopped pecans and shredded coconut.
- Frost the Cake: Spread the frosting evenly over the cake, covering it completely.
- Chill and Serve: Chill the cake in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before serving. Enjoy your delicious German Chocolate Poke Cake!
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can use homemade caramel sauce instead of store-bought.
- You can also add extra chopped pecans or coconut on top of the frosting for additional texture.
