Ingredients

Scale
  1. For the Base:

    • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
    • 1/2 cup water

    For the Layering:

    • 3 cups tortilla chips, slightly crushed
    • 1 cup salsa
    • 1 cup sour cream
    • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)

    Optional Toppings:

    1. Chopped lettuce
    2. Diced tomatoes
    3. Sliced black olives
    4. Sliced jalapeños
    5. Fresh cilantro

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef:

    • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.
    • Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  • Assemble the Casserole:

    • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • Spread the crushed tortilla chips evenly in the bottom of the dish.
    • Layer the seasoned beef mixture over the chips.
    • Spread the salsa over the beef, followed by an even layer of sour cream.
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
  • Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve:

    • Let the casserole cool slightly, then top with your desired toppings such as lettuce, tomatoes, olives, jalapeños, or cilantro.
  • Enjoy:

    • Serve with extra tortilla chips on the side for scooping, or enjoy it as is!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add some diced jalapeños directly into the beef mixture.
  • You can substitute the ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • This dish can easily be doubled for a larger crowd.
