This creamy and dreamy Vanilla Buttercream Frosting is your go-to for frosting cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. It’s incredibly easy to make and customizable to your preferred sweetness and texture!

Ingredients

  1. Unsalted Butter (1 1/2 cups): Room temperature, for a creamy base.
  2. Powdered Sugar (4 to 5 cups): Sifted, to achieve a silky texture (adjust to taste).
  3. Fine Salt (1/4 tsp): Balances the sweetness perfectly (adjust to taste).
  4. Vanilla Extract (4 tsp): For that classic, sweet vanilla flavor.
  5. Heavy Cream or Whole Milk (3-4 Tbsp): Adjust to your desired consistency.

Instructions

  1. Beat the Butter:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter on medium speed until it becomes light and fluffy.
  2. Add Powdered Sugar:
Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Adjust the sugar quantity to your sweetness preference.
  3. Add Flavor and Cream:
Stir in the salt, vanilla extract, and 3 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk. Beat on high speed until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
  4. Adjust Consistency:
If the frosting feels too thick, add more cream or milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Frost and Enjoy:
Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or store for later use.

Notes

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring to room temperature and re-whip before use.
  • Optional Variations: Add food coloring, other flavor extracts, or a pinch of cinnamon for a unique twist!
  • Yield Tip: Perfect for frosting a two-layer 8-inch cake or 24 cupcakes.
