    • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 tbsp cornstarch
    • ½ tsp baking soda
    • ½ tsp baking powder
    • ½ tsp salt
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  2. Optional for Decorating:
    1. Icing or royal icing
    2. Heart-shaped sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
    • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth dough forms.
  • Roll & Cut:
    • Divide dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30-60 minutes until firm.
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness.
    • Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies, placing them about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake the Cookies:
    • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set but centers are slightly soft.
    • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Decorate (Optional):
    • Once cooled, decorate with icing or royal icing, and top with heart-shaped sprinkles for a festive Valentine’s touch!

Notes

  • For an extra festive touch, use red or pink colored icing.
  • The dough can be refrigerated overnight for easier handling.
  • If you want the cookies to have a firmer texture, bake them for an extra 2 minutes.
