Description
Death by Chocolate Poke Cake is a rich, moist, and indulgent dessert layered with chocolate cake, fudge, pudding, and whipped topping—perfect for serious chocolate lovers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients called for on the box: usually water, eggs, and oil)
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 jar (12 oz) hot fudge sauce
- 1 package (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 container (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed
- Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to the temperature specified on the cake mix box. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake as directed, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once the cake is baked and still warm, use the back of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
- Warm the hot fudge sauce slightly to make it pourable and pour it over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
- In a bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk. Before the pudding sets, pour it over the cake and spread evenly.
- Refrigerate the cake for about 1 hour to cool and let the pudding set.
- Spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips.
- Keep the cake refrigerated until ready to serve.
Notes
- Use a metal or wooden spoon handle for evenly sized holes in the cake.
- Let the fudge and pudding seep into the cake for best texture and flavor.
- Can be made a day ahead for convenience.
