- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons Kashmiri/Himalayan green tea (or regular green tea)
- 2 cups whole milk
- Spices & Additives:
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1–2 star anise
- 2 cardamom pods, crushed
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- For Serving:
- Sugar or honey to taste
- Crushed almonds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan, add the green tea, and boil for about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the baking soda. The water will turn deep red. Continue boiling for an additional 2 minutes.
- Add star anise, crushed cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick. Boil for another minute.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes, allowing the liquid to reduce by half. This will intensify the flavor and color.
- Stir in the salt, then add the milk and bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Watch as the tea turns pink.
- Strain into cups, sweeten to taste with sugar or honey, and garnish with optional crushed almonds.
- Serve hot and enjoy the warming, spiced flavor!
Notes
- The tea can be served with a variety of garnishes like crushed almonds or pistachios for added texture.
- Adjust the amount of sweetener according to your taste preferences.
- If you prefer a stronger flavor, you can let the tea simmer for a bit longer before adding the milk.
