Description

Beef Gravy Potatoes is the ultimate comfort food. Picture creamy mashed potatoes topped with savory ground beef gravy—rich, hearty, and satisfying. It’s a fuss-free dinner that’s perfect for cozy nights when you need a warm and filling meal. Whether you’re craving a comforting American main course, a high-protein dinner, or a dish that’s easy to prepare, this one delivers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes: Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Drain and return them to the pot.
  2. Mash the potatoes: Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper to the cooked potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the beef gravy: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Add onions and garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef and cook for 3-4 minutes, until softened.
  5. Make the gravy: Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, then add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Assemble the dish: Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates and top with the beef gravy mixture. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can make the mashed potatoes ahead of time and reheat them before serving.
  • If you prefer a thicker gravy, add more flour or cook it for a longer time until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of garlic powder or a sprinkle of fresh parsley as a garnish.
