Description

This Sweet Bread Strata is a savory breakfast casserole made with soft Hawaiian rolls, melty cheese, crispy bacon, and green onions, all baked in a creamy egg custard. It’s perfect for brunch, holidays, or make-ahead breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 Hawaiian bread rolls (such as King’s®)
  • ½ cup shredded Swiss cheese, divided
  • ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
  • 3 slices cooked bacon, diced, divided
  • 4 green onions, diced, divided
  • 3 eggs
  • ⅔ cup half-and-half
  • ½ cup skim milk
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Tear the Hawaiian bread rolls into small pieces and place in a greased 9×9-inch baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, skim milk, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour half of the egg mixture evenly over the bread pieces in the baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle half of the shredded Swiss and Cheddar cheeses, bacon, and green onions over the top.
  6. Pour the remaining egg mixture over the bread, pressing down slightly to ensure all pieces are soaked.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese, bacon, and green onions on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes, until golden and set.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare this dish the night before and refrigerate it; just bring it to room temperature before baking.
  • Feel free to swap out the cheeses or add other veggies like bell peppers or mushrooms.
  • Great way to use up leftover bread or rolls!
