For the Toppings:
Optional Garnishes:
Preheat & Prep:
Preheat the oven to broil on high. Lightly spray a 12-inch ovenproof skillet with cooking spray.
Cook the Burger:
Press the ground beef into an even layer in the skillet. Use a spoon to create divots to prevent puffing. Season with salt, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Broil for 15 minutes until cooked through and browned. Remove the burger from the skillet and set it aside. Discard the pan drippings.
Sauté the Onions & Garlic:
Reduce the oven temperature to 450°F (230°C). Melt butter in the skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in garlic and cook for 2 more minutes until fragrant. Transfer the sautéed onions and garlic to a plate.
Assemble the Pizza Burger:
Place one pizza crust at the bottom of the skillet. Spread ¼ to ⅓ cup pizza sauce over the crust. Evenly distribute the onions and garlic. Place the cooked burger patty on top. Cover the burger with American cheese slices. Place the second pizza crust upside down over the burger.
Top & Bake:
Spread the remaining pizza sauce over the top crust. Sprinkle with two-thirds of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Add pepperoni and mushrooms, distributing them evenly. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.
Slice & Serve:
Cut into wedges and serve hot. Garnish with fresh basil and crushed red pepper flakes, if desired.
