Description

Ingredients

  1. 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  2. 2 cups heavy cream
  3. 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or gruyere)
  4. 1 onion, sliced
  5. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  6. Salt and pepper, to taste
  7. 2 tablespoons butter
  8. 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  • Add half of the sliced onions and minced garlic over the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and half of the shredded cheese.
  • Pour half of the heavy cream over the layer of potatoes.
  • Repeat with the remaining potatoes, onions, garlic, cheese, and cream.
  • Dot the top with butter and sprinkle with fresh thyme (optional).
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.

 

  • Let the dish cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can use any cheese you like, but cheddar or gruyere works beautifully in this dish.

 

  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, reduce the heavy cream by a little and add a tablespoon of flour when you layer the potatoes.
