Description

A deliciously sweet and sticky chicken dish, cooked with a flavorful sauce made from maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, and soy sauce, perfect for a quick and easy dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 750g (26.5oz) raw boneless, skinless chicken thighs (trimmed of all visible fat), sliced into strips
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger root
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste (puree)
  • ½ cup (120ml) water
  • Cooking oil spray (e.g., avocado oil)

Instructions

  1. In a jug, combine the water, maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, and tomato paste.
  2. Spray a frying pan with cooking oil spray over high heat.
  3. Add the sliced chicken, ginger, onion powder, garlic powder, and season with sea salt and black pepper. Fry until the chicken is lightly golden on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add the sauce ingredients to the pan, scraping any bits stuck to the pan with a wooden spoon to incorporate the flavor.
  5. Allow the sauce to bubble over high heat until it starts to thicken. The sauce is thick enough when it divides as you run a wooden spoon through it.
  6. Return the chicken to the pan and simmer until the chicken is well coated in the sauce and cooked through.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper as needed.
  8. Serve with your choice of sides and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure to cook the chicken thoroughly to ensure it is safe to eat.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or chili powder to the sauce.
  • This dish goes well with steamed rice, vegetables, or a fresh salad.
