Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 loaf Italian bread (fresh, crusty)
- 8 oz cooked spaghetti (al dente)
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup garlic butter (butter mixed with minced garlic and herbs)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp fresh basil or parsley (finely chopped)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Variations (optional)
- 1/2 cup cooked ground beef, sausage, or meatballs for meaty twist
- 1/2 cup sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach for vegetarian option
- 1/4 cup ricotta or provolone cheese for creamier filling
- Red pepper flakes or hot sauce for spicy kick
- Gluten-free bread and pasta as an alternative
Instructions
- Prepare the Spaghetti Filling: Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain well and toss with warm marinara sauce, a pinch of salt and pepper, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Hollow Out the Bread: Slice the Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise. Carefully scoop out the soft interior bread using a spoon or your hands, leaving a solid crust shell to hold the filling.
- Make the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, plenty of minced garlic, finely chopped parsley or basil, and a pinch of salt. Spread the garlic butter generously over the inside surfaces of both bread halves.
- Stuff and Assemble: Fill each bread half evenly with the saucy spaghetti mixture, pressing gently to pack it in. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top for a golden, bubbly finish.
- Bake to Perfection: Place the stuffed bread halves on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the bread is toasted and crispy on the edges.
Notes
- Use day-old or slightly stale bread to help prevent sogginess.
- Don’t overfill the bread to avoid spilling during baking.
- Toss spaghetti with sauce but avoid excess liquid to keep the bread crisp.
- Add fresh herbs after baking for vibrant flavor and color.
- Watch the bread closely while baking to prevent burning.
