This authentic Southern West Virginia hot dog chili sauce is the perfect topping for any hot dog! Rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned with chili powder, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce, it’s a must-have at every cookout. Once you try it, you’ll never settle for store-bought again!
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp dried minced onion
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- Pinch of red pepper flakes
- 2–3 cups water (enough to cover the meat)
- 1 cup ketchup
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
Instructions

Simmer the Beef:
Place the ground beef in a deep skillet or saucepan.
Add chili powder, paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, dried minced onion, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
Pour in 2-3 cups of water (enough to cover the meat).
Simmer on low heat for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally. -
Add the Sweet & Tangy Flavors:
Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
Continue simmering for 30-45 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

Notes
- This chili sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to a week.
