Description
A decadent Southern-style chocolate cobbler with a rich chocolate sauce that forms underneath, perfect when served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
- Sprinkle brown sugar and cocoa powder evenly over the batter to create the topping.
- Carefully pour the boiling water over the mixture (do NOT stir).
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is set and a luscious chocolate sauce forms underneath.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- This cobbler is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- The chocolate sauce forms underneath the cake-like top, so don’t stir the mixture before baking.
- For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
- Be careful when pouring the boiling water to avoid splashes.
