Description

A decadent Southern-style chocolate cobbler with a rich chocolate sauce that forms underneath, perfect when served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.


Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
  3. Sprinkle brown sugar and cocoa powder evenly over the batter to create the topping.
  4. Carefully pour the boiling water over the mixture (do NOT stir).
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is set and a luscious chocolate sauce forms underneath.
  6. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

  • This cobbler is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • The chocolate sauce forms underneath the cake-like top, so don’t stir the mixture before baking.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
