Description

These Slow Cooker French Onion Meatballs are savory, tender, and packed with rich flavor! Perfect for a cozy dinner or as a crowd-pleasing appetizer. The combination of caramelized onions, flavorful meatballs, and a savory beef broth gravy makes this a must-try dish

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 1 lb ground beef
  2. 1 packet French onion soup mix
  3. 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  4. 1/4 cup milk
  5. 1 egg
  6. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  7. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  8. 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  9. 2 cups beef broth
  10. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  11. Salt and pepper to taste
  12. Fresh thyme for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, French onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, and Parmesan cheese until well combined. Form the mixture into meatballs.
  • Brown Meatballs: In a skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides. Once browned, transfer the meatballs to the slow cooker.
  • Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Cook until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Add the caramelized onions on top of the meatballs in the slow cooker.
  • Make Gravy: In a bowl, mix the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the mixture over the meatballs and onions in the slow cooker.
  • Cook: Set the slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  • Garnish and Serve: Before serving, garnish with fresh thyme. Enjoy the meatballs hot!

Notes

  • You can substitute the beef broth with chicken or vegetable broth for a different flavor.
  • Serve these meatballs with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread to soak up the delicious gravy!
