This Sloppy Joe Crescent Bake is the ultimate comfort food casserole! A delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe, this dish layers saucy ground beef, gooey cheese, and buttery crescent rolls into a bubbly, golden bake. Perfect for busy weeknights, game day, or family gatherings, it comes together fast and bakes in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (8-oz) cans crescent dough sheets
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • For the Sloppy Joe Filling:
    • 2 lb ground beef
    • 1 (8-oz) can tomato sauce
    • 1 cup barbecue sauce
    • 4 tsp yellow mustard
    • 4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 4 tsp apple cider vinegar
    • 4 tsp brown sugar
    • 4 tsp chili powder
    • 4 tsp onion powder
    • 2 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
    • 1 Tbsp hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat.
  3. Return meat to skillet. Stir in tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Mix cornstarch and hot water in a small bowl. Add to the skillet and cook for 1–2 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat.
  5. Press one can of crescent dough into the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture over the cheese. Layer the American cheese slices on top.
  7. Cover with the second can of crescent dough. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the crescent top is golden brown.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can use a combination of cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  • Serve with a side salad or steamed veggies to balance the richness of the dish.
  • To make it spicier, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the sloppy joe mixture.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge before baking. Simply bake it just before serving.
