Ingredients

Scale

Beef

  • 34 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Braising Liquid

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Sandwich Fixings

  • 68 sandwich buns
  • Optional: pickles, coleslaw, sliced onions

Instructions

Cook the Beef

  1. Place the beef chuck roast in a slow cooker or Dutch oven. Add sliced onions and minced garlic on top.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pour the mixture over the beef.
  4. For slow cooker: Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. For oven: Cover and braise at 300°F (150°C) for 3–4 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.

Shred and Serve

  1. Transfer cooked beef to a cutting board and shred with two forks.
  2. Return shredded beef to the pot and stir to combine with the cooking juices.
  3. Serve the pulled beef on sandwich buns with your choice of toppings like pickles, slaw, or onions.

Notes

  • For even more flavor, sear the beef on all sides before placing it in the slow cooker or Dutch oven.
  • This beef reheats beautifully — store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for future meals.
  • Try it on toasted ciabatta or brioche buns for a fancy twist!
  • Great with a side of chips, baked beans, or potato salad.
