Ingredients

Scale
    1. 1 ½ pounds ground beef
    2. 1 cup breadcrumbs
    3. 1 egg, beaten
    4. ½ cup milk
    5. 1 green bell pepper, diced
    6. 1 small onion, diced
    7. 1 cup shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
    8. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    9. 1 teaspoon onion powder
    10. 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    11. Salt and pepper to taste
    12. 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Prepare Vegetables:

    • Sauté the diced bell pepper and onion in a skillet over medium heat until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Allow them to cool slightly.
  3. Mix Meatloaf:

    • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined (do not overwork the meat).
  4. Layer Cheese and Vegetables:

    • Add half of the meat mixture to the prepared loaf pan and press it down evenly. Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese and the sautéed vegetables. Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing gently to seal the edges.
  5. Add Topping (Optional):

    • Spread ketchup over the top of the meatloaf, if desired.
  6. Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  7. Add Final Cheese Layer:

    • Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top and return the meatloaf to the oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Rest and Serve:

    • Allow the meatloaf to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve hot and enjoy the rich, cheesy goodness!

Notes

  • For extra spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sautéed vegetables.
  • Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free option.
  • Substitute provolone cheese with cheddar or Swiss for different flavor profiles.
