Ingredients

Scale
  1. For the Cake:

    • 2 cups flour – Provides structure to the cake.
    • 2 cups granulated sugar – Sweetens the cake perfectly.
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda – Helps the cake rise.
    • ¼ teaspoon salt – Balances the sweetness.
    • ¾ cup water – Adds moisture to the cake.
    • 10 tablespoons butter – Creates a tender crumb.
    • ¾ cup creamy peanut butter – Gives the cake its rich peanut butter flavor.
    • 2 eggs – Binds the ingredients and helps the cake rise.
    • ¾ cup buttermilk – Adds a subtle tang and keeps the cake moist.
    • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract – Enhances the flavor.

    For the Peanut Butter Frosting:

    • 1 stick butter – Makes the frosting smooth and creamy.
    • 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese – Adds richness to the frosting.
    • ½¾ cup creamy peanut butter – The star ingredient that gives the frosting its peanut butter flavor.
    • 2 cups powdered sugar – Sweetens the frosting and gives it the right consistency.
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla – Adds depth to the frosting flavor.

Instructions

  • Preheat and Prepare Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour or spray an 11×13-inch baking pan.
  • Make the Cake Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
Combine the water and butter in a large saucepan and heat until the butter melts. Stir in the peanut butter until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Stir the dry mixture into the peanut butter mixture just until combined. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla, stirring gently to combine.
  • Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and set it on a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • Make the Peanut Butter Frosting
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and peanut butter until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar in ½ cup increments, followed by the vanilla. If the frosting is too thick, add milk or heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
  • Frost the Cake
Once the cake has fully cooled, spread the peanut butter frosting generously over the top. Slice and serve.

Notes

  • Make sure the cake is completely cooled before frosting it to avoid melting the frosting.
  • You can add a little more or less peanut butter to the frosting depending on how peanut-buttery you like it.
  • If you prefer a thicker frosting, reduce the amount of milk or cream you add.
