Ingredients
Scale
1 cup finely chopped high-quality white chocolate
1/4 cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoons freshly grated orange zest
3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
1/2 teaspoon pure orange extract
Optional: oil-based orange food coloring
1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, divided for use
Instructions
Preparation: Arrange the white chocolate in a small, sealable container, ensuring it is easily accessible. Position a strainer and a spatula within reach for later use.
Infusing the Butter: In a small saucepan placed over medium heat, combine the unsalted butter and orange zest. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring continuously. Once it reaches a boil, maintain the boil for one minute, ensuring constant stirring.
Incorporating Cream: Gradually add the heavy whipping cream to the saucepan while continuously stirring. Cook and stir for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until bubbles start forming along the pan’s edges. Remove from heat.
Straining and Combining: Position the strainer over the container containing the white chocolate. Pour the hot orange butter mixture through the strainer, using the spatula to press the zest against the mesh to extract maximum flavor. Discard the leftover zest.
Mixture Melting: Allow the mixture to sit undisturbed for one minute. Add the orange extract and, if desired, the food coloring. Whisk until most of the chocolate has melted, though a few solid pieces may remain.
Chilling: Seal the container and place it in the freezer for about one hour, or until the mixture firms up enough to be handled.
Notes
For a fun visual twist, use orange food coloring to give the truffles a vibrant look.
If the mixture is too soft to shape, allow it to chill a little longer.
You can roll the truffles in powdered sugar or dip them in more melted white chocolate for an extra indulgence.
