Ingredients
1 lb smoked sausage, sliced or cut into bite-sized chunks
1 cup uncooked white rice
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt & black pepper, to taste
2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
½ cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)
Instructions
-
Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage pieces and cook until nicely browned and caramelized on all sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
-
In the same pan, add the uncooked rice, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir constantly for 1–2 minutes to lightly toast the rice and bring out the flavor.
-
Pour in the broth and BBQ sauce. Stir well and bring to a light boil.
-
Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 18–20 minutes until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
-
Return the sausage to the skillet, stir to combine, and let sit off the heat for a few minutes before serving. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
-
Use turkey or plant-based sausage for a lighter or vegetarian version.
-
Add frozen peas or corn in the last 5 minutes of cooking for extra texture and color.
-
This recipe works with either long grain white rice or jasmine rice.
