Description
This Old-Fashioned Black Walnut Fudge is a rich, decadent treat made with a simple blend of butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and black walnuts. Perfect for holiday gifts or a sweet indulgence!
Ingredients
-
1 stick butter
-
2 cups sugar
-
1/2 cup cocoa powder
-
1/2 cup evaporated milk
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 cup black walnuts (chopped)
Instructions
-
In a cast iron skillet, combine butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and evaporated milk.
-
Stir and melt the mixture together over medium heat.
-
Bring the mixture to a hard boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 4 minutes.
-
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and black walnuts.
-
Stir every few minutes as the mixture cools and starts to thicken.
-
Once the fudge has cooled slightly but is still thick, pour it into a buttered pan.
-
Allow the fudge to cool completely before cutting it into pieces.
-
Store in a container. This fudge does not need refrigeration.
Notes
-
While the recipe says to stir until the fudge loses its gloss, it has been found that stirring every few minutes as it cools is sufficient.
-
You can substitute black walnuts with regular walnuts if preferred, but the flavor of black walnuts really makes this fudge stand out.
-
If you prefer a softer fudge, you can experiment with reducing the boil time slightly.
