This sweet and savory Southern classic combines tart apples with creamy cheese and a buttery cracker topping. It’s the perfect side dish for holiday meals, baked ham, or any special occasion!

Ingredients

    1. 4 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
    2. ½ cup granulated sugar
    3. ½ tsp cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
    4. 1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning)
    5. 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
    6. 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers (or butter crackers)
    7. 4 tbsp butter, melted
    8. ½ cup whole milk or heavy cream

Instructions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
    2. In a bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
    3. Spread half of the apple mixture in the prepared baking dish.
    4. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the apples.
    5. Repeat with the remaining apple slices and cheese.
    6. In a small bowl, mix crushed crackers with melted butter.
    7. Sprinkle the cracker mixture evenly over the apples and cheese.
    8. Pour milk or heavy cream evenly over the casserole.
    9. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
    10. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
