Description

Deliciously chewy Molasses Crackle Cookies are a holiday favorite! These cookies combine warm spices, rich molasses, and a delightful sugar-coated crackle finish. Perfect with a cup of tea or coffee, they’re a treat everyone will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 1 cup canola oil – Adds moisture and keeps the cookies soft.
  2. 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar, divided – Sweetens and creates a crackly sugar coating.
  3. 1/3 cup molasses – For rich, deep flavor.
  4. 1 egg – Helps bind the dough.
  5. 3 2/3 cups all-purpose flour – Provides structure.
  6. 1 tablespoon baking soda – Ensures a light texture.
  7. 1 tablespoon ground ginger – Adds a warm, spicy note.
  8. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon – Enhances the spice blend.
  9. 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves – For depth and aroma.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Mix wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the canola oil and 1 ¾ cups of sugar until smooth. Add the molasses and egg, blending until fully incorporated.
  • Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
  • Form the dough: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the molasses mixture until just combined.
  • Shape and coat: Place the remaining ½ cup of sugar in a small bowl. Using a 2-tablespoon scoop, shape the dough into balls and roll each in the sugar.
  • Bake: Arrange the cookie dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them at least 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are golden brown and the tops are slightly cracked.
  • Cool: Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, bake the cookies on the longer side of the time range.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
