Ingredients
Scale
1 large sweet onion – peeled and sliced into rings
1 cup all-purpose flour – for the coating
1 teaspoon baking powder – helps with crispiness
1 teaspoon salt – adds flavor to the batter
1 cup milk – to help make the batter smooth
1 large egg – helps bind the batter
3/4 cup bread crumbs – for a crispy crust
Oil for frying – for cooking the onion rings
Instructions
Slice the onion into rings and set aside.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat the egg and milk until combined.
In a third bowl, add the bread crumbs.
Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, coating fully. Transfer to the egg mixture and turn using a fork until fully coated. Then, dip in the bread crumbs and turn until well-coated.
Heat a deep frying pan and fill with oil. Once the oil is hot, fry the onion rings in batches of 3-4 at a time, until golden brown.
Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Serve with ketchup or mayonnaise and enjoy!
Notes
You can adjust the amount of salt and bread crumbs to taste.
For extra crispy onion rings, use panko breadcrumbs or double coat the onion rings.
