These Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars are a rich, buttery treat loaded with chocolate chips and a creamy condensed milk layer, all wrapped in a soft, chewy cookie base with golden, crisped edges.

- 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3 cups (372 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups (255 g) chocolate chips
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (4.4 oz) Hershey bar or equivalent chocolate, broken into pieces
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, brown the butter, stirring frequently until it turns a light golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the granulated sugar and brown sugar until combined. Let the mixture cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Beat the eggs into the butter-sugar mixture one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with foil and lightly grease or spray.
- Press half of the cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the dough layer.
- Scatter the chocolate bar pieces over the condensed milk.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining dough on top and gently press to spread out and cover the filling.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown and set in the center.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing.
Notes
- Chill before slicing for cleaner cuts.
- You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate if preferred.
- Use parchment or foil to lift the bars easily from the pan.
- Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
