Ingredients

Scale
  1. 1 lb lean ground beef
  2. 1 lb ground turkey or chicken (substitute for pork sausage)
  3. 1 cup chopped turkey or beef pepperoni
  4. ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  5. 4 tsp Italian seasoning, divided
  6. 1 (26-oz) jar tomato basil pasta sauce
  7. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  8. 1 (13.8-oz) can refrigerated pizza crust dough
  9. 1 Tbsp olive oil
  10. 3 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook the meats: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and ground turkey (or chicken) over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add pepperoni and seasoning: Stir in the turkey (or beef) pepperoni, 2 tsp of Italian seasoning, and flour. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Simmer the sauce: Add the pasta sauce and simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.
  • Prepare the crust: Roll out the pizza crust dough and place it in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with the remaining Italian seasoning.
  • Add the meat sauce: Pour the meat sauce mixture over the crust and spread evenly. Top with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground pork sausage for a richer flavor.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, add crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce mixture.
  • This casserole pairs great with a fresh salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.
