Description

These Keto Sweet and Sour Turnips are the perfect low-carb alternative to traditional sweet and sour sides. Fork-tender turnips are simmered in a tangy, savory sauce with crispy bacon, creating a flavor-packed dish that’s perfect for your keto dinner rotation. Easy to make and packed with comforting flavors!

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 2 pounds turnips, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
    4 cups chicken broth
    4 slices raw bacon, diced
    2 tablespoons diced onions
2 tablespoons brown sugar substitute (Swerve)
    2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
    1 tablespoon tamari
    1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    ¼ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

In a large stockpot, boil turnips in chicken broth for 30 minutes or until fork tender. Drain and set aside.
While turnips are cooking, sauté bacon and onions in a large skillet over medium-high heat until bacon reaches your desired level of crispness. Do not drain the bacon grease.
Add the brown sugar substitute, red wine vinegar, tamari, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Whisk to combine and simmer for 2–3 minutes.
Add the cooked turnips to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook until heated through. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes for some heat.

  • Be sure to use a sugar substitute that measures like sugar, such as Swerve, to achieve the desired sweetness.

  • You can substitute tamari with soy sauce if preferred.
