Description

The Homemade Sonic Double Smasher Burger features two crispy smashed beef patties with melty American cheese, topped with homemade Smasher sauce, pickles, and onions, all sandwiched between perfectly toasted potato buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Smasher Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • ½ tsp Dijon mustard
  • ⅛ tsp smoked paprika
  • ⅛ tsp ground black pepper
  • 4 drops Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • Burger:
  • 4 potato buns
  • 1 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20 ground chuck preferred)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 16 refrigerated crinkle-cut round pickles (like Claussen)
  • ¼ cup diced yellow onion

Instructions

  1. To make the Smasher sauce, combine all sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Mix thoroughly and set aside.
  2. Spread softened butter evenly on the cut sides of the potato buns. Place buns cut-side down on a griddle or skillet and toast until golden brown. Set aside.
  3. Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions and shape each into a loose ball.
  4. Heat a large griddle or cast-iron skillet over high heat until very hot. Place a beef ball on the hot surface and immediately smash it thin with a spatula or burger press. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until crispy edges form. Flip the patty, season the other side, and top each patty with a slice of cheese. Cook for another 30 to 45 seconds until the cheese begins to melt. Repeat with remaining patties.
  5. To assemble each burger, spread Smasher sauce on the bottom bun. Add 2 cheese-topped patties, followed by 4 pickle slices and a tablespoon of onions. Spread more Smasher sauce on the top bun and place it on the burger. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, toast the pickles briefly before adding them to the burger.
  • Adjust the amount of mustard and Worcestershire sauce in the Smasher sauce based on your preferred flavor.
  • You can add lettuce and tomatoes if you prefer more toppings.
  • For a slightly spicy kick, add some hot sauce or jalapeños to the burger.
