This Homemade Pizza Dough is the perfect base for your pizza creations, offering a soft, chewy crust with just the right amount of crispiness. It’s easy to make, and with a little patience, you’ll have fresh dough ready for your favorite toppings!

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  2. 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/45°C, warm but not hot to the touch)
  3. 1 teaspoon sugar
  4. 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)
  5. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  6. 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, which means the yeast is active.
  • Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix with a wooden spoon or dough hook until a rough dough forms.
  • Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky (but not sticky). If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
  • Let the Dough Rise:
Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the dough inside, turning it to coat the surface with oil. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1–2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  • Shape the Dough:
Once risen, punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Divide it into two equal portions for two pizzas (or keep it whole for a thicker crust). Roll or stretch each portion into your desired pizza shape and thickness. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  • Add Toppings and Bake:
Preheat your oven to 475°F (250°C). If using a pizza stone, preheat it in the oven for at least 30 minutes. Top the dough with your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  • Serve:
Slice your pizza and enjoy it fresh and homemade!

Notes

  1. Storage: If you’re not using the dough right away, you can wrap it tightly and refrigerate it for up to 3 days. Let it come to room temperature before using.
  2. Freezing: You can freeze the dough for up to 3 months. Let it thaw in the fridge overnight before using.
  3. Toppings Ideas: Try classic Margherita, pepperoni, or a veggie-loaded pizza!
