Description

This homemade dog food recipe is a wholesome, nutritious meal for your dog, packed with lean ground chicken, veggies, and brown rice. It’s easy to make and will provide your pup with all the essential nutrients they need for a balanced diet

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 2 cups brown rice
  2. 2 pounds lean ground chicken
  3. 2 cups spinach (chopped)
  4. 1 large carrot (shredded, about 1 cup)
  5. 1 small zucchini (shredded, about 1 cup)

Instructions

  • In a large pot or saucepan, combine 4 cups of water and brown rice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer (medium-low to low heat) and cover.
  • Cook rice for 45 minutes or until rice is completely soft and all the water is absorbed.
  • While the rice is cooking, cook the ground chicken in a large skillet over medium-high heat until no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Add the spinach, carrot, and zucchini to the skillet with the chicken. Cook until the spinach wilts and the other vegetables soften, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove the chicken and vegetable mixture from the heat and set aside to cool.
  • Once the rice is done, stir together the rice and chicken mixture.
  • Let the food cool completely before serving to your dog or storing for later.

Notes

  • Be sure to let the food cool completely before serving to avoid burns.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • You can add other dog-safe vegetables like sweet potatoes or peas if your dog enjoys them.
  • Always consult with your veterinarian to ensure this recipe meets your dog’s dietary needs, especially if they have specific health concerns or dietary restrictions.
