Description
A fun twist on your classic grilled cheese, these Grilled Cheese Dogs feature a hot dog wrapped in crispy, buttery buns and melted cheese. Perfect for any picnic or barbecue!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 hot dog buns
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 4 hot dogs, split lengthwise (be careful not to cut all the way through)
- 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 scallions, sliced
Instructions
- Flatten the buns with a rolling pin.
- In a small bowl, stir butter, garlic powder, and onion powder. Spread all over the outsides of the buns.
- Working in batches if needed, in a large skillet over medium heat, sear the hot dogs, turning occasionally, until charred, about 2 minutes per side.
- Place a bun butter mixture side down in the skillet and top with 1/2 cup cheddar, a hot dog, a little more cheddar, and one-quarter of the scallions.
- Cover and cook over medium heat until cheese melts, then use a spatula to close the bun.
- Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make 4 cheese dogs total.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of cheese to your preference for a cheesier sandwich.
- You can use any type of cheese that melts well, such as mozzarella, Gruyère, or Monterey Jack.
