These Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars are a delightful twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie. With a rich, buttery base, a layer of sweetened condensed milk, and a scattering of chocolate chunks, these bars are irresistibly gooey and packed with flavor.

- 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, melted
- ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3 cups (372 g) all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 1½ cups (255 g) chocolate chips
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 4.4 oz Hershey bar (or equivalent chocolate)
Instructions
- Brown the butter: Melt the butter over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns light brown. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
- Mix the sugars: Stir in both the granulated sugar and brown sugar to the cooled butter. Let the mixture cool slightly.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Beat the eggs: Add the eggs one at a time to the sugar-butter mixture, followed by the vanilla extract. Beat until fully combined.
- Mix in the flour: Gradually stir in the dry flour mixture until well incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Assemble the bars: Line a 9×13-inch pan with foil. Press half of the dough into the pan. Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the dough and scatter pieces of the Hershey bar on top. Cover with the remaining dough, pressing gently.
- Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. Let the bars cool completely before slicing into squares.
