These Special Occasion Baked Mashed Potatoes are rich, creamy, and topped with melted cheddar for a side dish that’s truly irresistible. Perfect for holidays, gatherings, or when you just want to impress.
Ingredients
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
½ cup sour cream
¼ cup butter
½ cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional toppings: chopped chives, bacon bits
Instructions
Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15 minutes).
Drain and mash with butter, sour cream, and milk until smooth.
Stir in cheese, salt, and pepper.
Spread into a greased baking dish and top with extra cheese.
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Garnish with optional toppings.
Notes
You can make this dish ahead of time and refrigerate it before baking. Add an extra 10 minutes of baking time if cold. Great with sharp cheddar or a cheese blend.
