Description

This quick and flavorful Bok Choy in Garlic Oyster Sauce recipe is the perfect side dish for any meal. Tender baby bok choy is blanched, then draped in a savory, garlicky sauce made with oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil. It’s an easy and healthy dish that’s packed with umami flavors!

Ingredients

Scale
  1. Bok Choy

    • 1 ½ lb baby bok choy
    • 1 teaspoon salt

    Sauce

    • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
    • ¼ cup water

    For Cooking

    1. 8 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon cooking oil

Instructions

Step 1: Blanch the Bok Choy

  1. Bring a pot of water with 1 teaspoon salt to a boil over high heat.
  2. Add baby bok choy and blanch for 1 minute. Remove and set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch with ¼ cup water until smooth.
  2. Add oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, chicken bouillon powder, and sesame oil. Stir to combine.

Step 3: Cook the Sauce

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir. Simmer until the sauce thickens, about 1–2 minutes.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Arrange the blanched bok choy on a serving plate.
  2. Pour the sauce over the bok choy. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, replace oyster sauce with vegetarian mushroom oyster sauce and skip the chicken bouillon powder.
  • For a spicier kick, sprinkle chili flakes over the finished dish.
  • Serve this dish as a side to rice or noodles for a complete meal.
