Ingredients

Scale
  1. 1 cup long-grain white rice (or preferred type of rice)
  2. 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
  3. 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  4. 1/2 cup water
  5. 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  6. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  7. 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional, depending on soup’s saltiness)
  8. Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the Rice:
    • In a medium saucepan, cook the rice according to package instructions (typically combining rice and water, bringing it to a boil, reducing heat to low, and simmering for 15–20 minutes until water is absorbed).
  • Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Add French onion soup, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt (if needed). Stir and let simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  • Combine Rice and Sauce:
    • Add cooked rice to the saucepan with the French onion butter sauce.
    • Stir to evenly coat the rice with the sauce.
  • Simmer Together:
    • Let the rice and sauce simmer for another 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally to meld the flavors.
  • Garnish and Serve:
    • Remove from heat, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For added flavor, try mixing in shredded cheese or caramelized onions.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave.
