Description

Enoki Beef Rolls are a gourmet yet simple dish featuring tender, thinly sliced beef wrapped around fresh enoki mushrooms. This recipe highlights a delightful balance of textures and deep umami flavors, elevated with a savory soy-mirin garlic sauce and finished with fragrant sesame oil and fresh green onions. Perfect for quick dinners or special occasions, these rolls offer an elegant presentation and customizable variations to suit your taste.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 200g thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin preferred)
  • 100g fresh enoki mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Rinse the enoki mushrooms gently and trim off the root ends. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove excess moisture. Lay out the thin slices of beef flat on a clean cutting board, ready for wrapping.
  2. Assemble the Rolls: Place a small bundle of enoki mushrooms at one end of each beef slice. Roll the beef tightly around the mushrooms, forming a neat cylinder shape. Lightly season each roll with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, minced garlic, and sesame oil. This sauce will provide a rich umami glaze to the rolls during cooking.
  4. Cook the Rolls: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and lightly oil the surface. Place the beef rolls seam side down first and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until the beef is browned and cooked through. Pour the sauce over the rolls halfway through cooking to glaze them.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove the cooked rolls from the skillet and allow them to rest for one minute. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds, if desired. Serve immediately to enjoy the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Choose thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin for the best texture and easy rolling.
  • Make sure to dry enoki mushrooms well to prevent soggy rolls.
  • Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan and ensure even browning.
  • Use toothpicks if needed to secure the rolls while cooking.
  • Let the rolls rest briefly after cooking to redistribute juices for a juicy bite.
