Description

This classic Italian Crostata is a buttery, crumbly jam tart that’s easy to make with just a few ingredients! Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an afternoon coffee treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  1. For the Pastry Dough (Pasta Frolla):

    • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
    • ½ cup (100g) sugar
    • ½ teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 pinch salt
    • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, cold & cubed
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 egg yolk
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)

    For the Filling:

    1. ¾ cup (200g) jam of choice (apricot, raspberry, or cherry are classic)
    2. Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  • Make the Dough

    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    • Add cold butter cubes and rub into the flour using your hands or a pastry cutter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, then mix until a dough forms.
    • Shape the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Roll & Assemble the Crostata

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Roll out ⅔ of the dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Press the dough into the pan and trim any excess.
    • Spread jam evenly over the crust.
  • Make the Lattice

    • Roll out the remaining dough, cut into strips, and arrange them in a lattice pattern on top of the jam filling.
  • Bake & Serve

    • Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown.
    • Let the crostata cool completely before slicing.
    • Dust with powdered sugar and serve!

Notes

  • Use your favorite jam flavor or mix and match (apricot, raspberry, or cherry work well).
  • If you prefer a less sweet crostata, opt for a less sugary jam and dust with minimal powdered sugar.
  • You can refrigerate the dough for up to 2 days before baking or freeze it for longer storage.
  • Serve with a cup of coffee or tea for a delicious afternoon treat.
