Description

A quick and easy beef brown gravy made from scratch using beef stock, butter, and pantry spices. Perfect for pouring over mashed potatoes, meatloaf, or roast beef for a rich, savory finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups beef stock
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add cornstarch and sauté until it turns a light brown color, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder.
  4. Gradually whisk in the beef stock, ensuring there are no lumps.
  5. Continue whisking and cooking for 5 to 7 minutes until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
  6. Season with black pepper if needed and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use low-sodium beef stock to better control the saltiness of the gravy.
  • If the gravy becomes too thick, thin it out with a splash of beef stock or water.
  • Add a splash of cream or a knob of butter for a richer texture.
