- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the Cream Cheese Filling:

- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh chives or parsley, chopped (optional)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For Boiling the Bagels:
- 8 cups water
- 1 tbsp honey or sugar
- 1 tbsp baking soda
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
- ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
Add warm water and olive oil, then mix until a dough forms.
Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic (you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook).
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling
In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, garlic, chives (if using), salt, and black pepper.
Refrigerate while the dough rises to firm up.
Step 3: Shape the Bagels & Fill with Cream Cheese
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
Flatten each piece into a circle and place about 1 tbsp of the cream cheese mixture in the center.
Wrap the dough around the filling, pinching the edges to seal.
Roll gently into a smooth ball, then poke a hole in the center and stretch into a bagel shape.
Step 4: Boil the Bagels
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large pot, bring water, honey (or sugar), and baking soda to a boil.
Boil each bagel for 30 seconds per side, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 5: Add Garlic Butter & Bake
Mix melted butter, garlic, parsley, and salt.
Brush the boiled bagels with the garlic butter mixture.
Bake for 18-22 minutes, until golden brown and crisp.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy!
Let cool slightly before biting into the warm, gooey, garlicky cream cheese filling.
Notes
- You can use a mix of fresh herbs like parsley, chives, or even dill to add extra flavor to the cream cheese filling.
- For a slightly sweeter version, use honey instead of sugar for boiling the bagels.
- If you don’t want to stuff the bagels with cream cheese, you can spread it on top after baking.
