Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef
- 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- ¾ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: extra Swiss cheese for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook mushrooms, onion, and garlic until softened and moisture evaporates, about 5–7 minutes. Let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, the cooled mushroom mixture, Swiss cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Form the mixture into a loaf shape in the prepared pan or on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Optional: In the last 10 minutes, top with additional Swiss cheese and return to the oven until melted.
- Let the meatloaf rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the meat mixture to keep the loaf tender.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure perfect doneness.
- Great served with mashed potatoes or roasted veggies.
