Description
Cinnamon Roll French Toast Roll-Ups are a fun and indulgent breakfast treat that combines the flavors of cinnamon rolls and French toast. Each bite is crispy on the outside with a soft, cinnamon-sugar filling inside, topped with a sweet glaze for the perfect morning treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of white bread (or brioche for extra richness)
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
- For the Glaze:
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 teaspoons milk (adjust for desired consistency)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Using a rolling pin, gently flatten each slice of bread to make it easier to roll. Be careful not to tear the bread.
- Make the Coating Mixture: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. In another shallow dish, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
- Assemble the Roll-Ups: Brush each flattened slice of bread with the butter mixture, then sprinkle a light layer of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the surface. Starting at one end, tightly roll up each slice into a spiral. Secure with a toothpick if needed to keep them from unrolling.
- Prepare the Custard: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Cook the Roll-Ups: Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Dip each roll-up into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated but not soggy. Place in the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly crispy. Repeat with the remaining roll-ups.
- Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk, a few drops at a time, if the glaze is too thick.
- Finish and Serve: Drizzle the glaze generously over the cooked roll-ups. Serve warm with a side of fresh fruit or maple syrup for an extra treat.
Notes
- For extra richness, use brioche bread instead of white bread.
- If the glaze is too thick, add milk a few drops at a time until it reaches your desired consistency.
- These roll-ups are best served fresh and warm for the crispiest texture.
- For a fun twist, you can also add chocolate chips or chopped nuts inside the roll-ups.
