  2. 1/2 cup heavy cream
  3. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  4. 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  5. 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  6. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  7. 3 egg yolks
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  • Gradually add milk and heavy cream, whisking until smooth.
  • Place over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture starts to thicken and bubble.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks. Slowly add a small amount of the hot mixture to temper the eggs.
  • Return the egg mixture to the saucepan, stirring continuously for another 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, add chopped chocolate and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
  • Pour into serving dishes and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
