Ingredients

Scale

Main:

  • 1 pack (12 rolls) King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • ½ cup milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate chunks
  • ¼ cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Almond Simple Syrup:

  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract

Almond Filling:

  • ¾ cup almond flour
  • ⅓ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated white sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare almond simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat gently until sugar dissolves, then remove from heat and stir in almond extract. Set aside.
  3. Prepare almond filling: In a bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add almond flour, sugar, salt, vanilla, almond extract, and egg. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Slice King’s Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected like a book. Spread almond filling evenly inside each roll.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips and sliced almonds over the filling. Close rolls gently.
  6. Place rolls in a baking dish and brush the tops with almond simple syrup.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  8. Remove from oven and brush again with almond simple syrup. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Use good quality almond extract for the best flavor punch.
  • Keep the rolls connected when slicing to avoid spills.
  • Chocolate chips can be swapped for chunks or your favorite chocolate.
  • Serve warm for melty chocolate goodness.
  • Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
