Description

These crispy, cheesy Chile Relleno Wontons are stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese and spicy green chilies, then fried to golden perfection. Paired with a tangy Jalapeño Soy Dipping Sauce, they make for an irresistible appetizer or snack. A fusion of flavors that’s perfect for your next party

Ingredients

Scale
  1. For the Wontons:

    • 30 wonton wrappers

    • 1 lb Monterey Jack cheese, cut into 1/2 to 1 1/2-inch strips

    • Green chilies (mild or hot), cut into strips

    • Hot green chiles (optional, for extra spice)

    • Oil, for frying

    For the Jalapeño-Soy Dipping Sauce:

    1. 1/4 cup soy sauce

    2. 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

    3. 1 minced jalapeño

    4. 1 teaspoon honey

    5. 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

Prepare the Wontons:

  1. Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean, dry surface.

  2. Place one strip of cheese and one strip of chili (green or hot, depending on your spice preference) onto each wrapper.

Seal the Wontons:

  1. Lightly moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with water.

  2. Fold the wrapper over the filling, pressing the edges together to seal completely. Ensure there are no gaps to prevent cheese from leaking out during frying.

  3. Let the sealed wontons rest for a few minutes before frying to set the seal.

Fry to Golden Perfection:

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Fry each wonton for 1-2 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  3. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

Make the Jalapeño-Soy Dipping Sauce:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced jalapeño, honey, and sesame oil.

  2. Let sit for at least 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and blend together.

Serve & Enjoy:

  1. Serve the crispy wontons hot, alongside the flavorful jalapeño-soy dipping sauce. You can also pair them with queso, salsa, or ranch dressing for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • For a milder flavor, use mild green chilies instead of hot ones.

  • Make sure to fry the wontons in batches to avoid overcrowding the fryer and ensure they cook evenly.

  • These wontons are best served fresh, but they can be stored in the fridge and reheated in an air fryer for a crispy texture.
