Description
This crispy and golden Batter Dipped Fish recipe is a homemade version of the popular Captain D’s fish, served with a light and crispy coating. Perfect for a family meal, this dish features a perfectly battered and fried white fish fillet that’s easy to prepare and oh-so-delicious.
Ingredients
Scale
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 pounds cod, hake, or other white fish
Instructions
- Preheat the oil to 350°F in a deep fryer or a medium-sized saucepan.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and cayenne pepper. Whisk in the water. The batter will become a bit foamy. Continue to mix.
- Pat the fish dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Dip the fish in the batter to fully coat each fillet.
- Deep-fry the fillets for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown. If frying multiple pieces at once, separate the pieces during cooking.
- Once done, drain the fish on a wire rack to remove excess oil.
Notes
- The fish can be served with your favorite dipping sauces like tartar sauce or lemon wedges.
- Be sure to maintain the oil temperature at 350°F for the crispiest results.
- You can also use other white fish like haddock or pollock if you prefer.
