This Baked Fried Chicken recipe gives you the crispy, golden perfection of fried chicken with less oil! Coated in a flavorful seasoning mix and baked in the oven, this dish is a healthier and delicious alternative to traditional fried chicken.

Ingredients

Scale
  1. For the Chicken:

    • 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut into thirds)
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 tbsp seasoned salt (like Lawry’s)
    • 3/4 tsp pepper
    • 2 tsp paprika
    • 1/2 stick butter (1/4 cup)
    • Buttermilk (enough to soak chicken)

Instructions

  1. Soak the Chicken:
Soak the chicken strips in buttermilk for 20–30 minutes in the fridge.
  2. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  3. Prepare the Flour Mixture:
In a large Ziploc bag or bowl, mix the flour, salt, seasoned salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Prepare the Pan:
Melt the butter in a 9×13-inch pan in the preheated oven, swirling it around to coat the bottom of the pan.
  5. Coat the Chicken:
Shake off any excess buttermilk from each chicken piece, then coat it in the flour mixture.
  6. Bake the Chicken:
Arrange the chicken pieces in the prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes, flip each piece, and bake for another 20 minutes or until fully cooked (internal temperature reaches 170°F).

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can broil the chicken for the last 2–3 minutes of baking.
  • Ensure that the chicken pieces are evenly coated in the flour mixture to get that perfect crisp!
