Description

These delicious Baked Apple Fritters are a healthier twist on the classic deep-fried favorite! Bursting with juicy apples, warm spices, and topped with a sweet glaze, they’re perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an indulgent snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  1. For the Fritters:

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour – The base of these fritters, providing structure.
    • 1/3 cup granulated sugar – Adds sweetness.
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder – For a light, fluffy texture.
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt – Enhances flavor.
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon – For warm, cozy spice.
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg – Adds depth to the flavor.
    • 2 large eggs – Binds the batter together.
    • 1/2 cup whole milk – Adds moisture.
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract – For a fragrant, sweet aroma.
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted – Adds richness.
    • 1 1/2 cups diced apples – Use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for tart-sweet bites.

    For the Glaze:

    • 1 cup powdered sugar – The perfect base for the glaze.
    • 23 tablespoons milk – Adjust consistency as needed.
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract – Adds flavor to the glaze.

Instructions

Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3. Combine the Wet Ingredients:

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.

4. Make the Batter:

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.

5. Shape and Bake:

Scoop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 14–16 minutes, or until the fritters are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6. Make the Glaze:

While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

7. Glaze and Serve:

Drizzle or brush the glaze over the warm fritters. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Warm in the microwave for a fresh-from-the-oven taste!
  • For an extra crunch, add chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter.
  • Adjust the glaze consistency by adding more milk (thinner) or powdered sugar (thicker).
